“Howl” Playback

The Ginsberg Files: Howl for our Generation.

This collection features a digitalized perspective of an upcoming immersive experience. In this, you will hear different voices and languages from around the world reciting the poignant and politically charged line from Allen Ginsberg's "Howl." At a time where the world is very divided I wanted to create something that would bring together international voices of our generation. I chose Ginsberg’s Howl as it originally was a vehicle in which Ginsberg commented on the conformity of society and a rebellion of modest expectations. It inspired many to break from conformity and freed them to express themselves.

This piece is a visual representation of a scene described in, “Howl.” The abstracted image is sheered to show the sound wave of Ginsberg’s first reading of “Howl.”

Trespassing on History

This collection of artworks is inspired by Allen Ginsberg’s first reciting of Howl. While playing around with soundwaves, I started to notice the similarity of the shape of soundwaves and the shape of barbed wire. I decided to spray paint a line of this image in order to create a chain. Through this I wanted to reflect the idea of trespassing on history, as history with its permanence and framework sits in a time line/time frame that is almost reminiscent of a fenced in space.

Trespassing on History, 8 x 10 in. Soundwave stencil, Spray paint on paper, 2020.
